In 2009, Peruvian Soul was born with a purpose: share the best of Peru with people all around the world. From the very beginning, we knew we wanted to use Peruvian Soul as a medium to positively impact our society. So, in December of the very first year of Peruvian Soul, the Papanoel Trekero project came to life.
It’s been 12 years since Papanoel Trekero started, and our commitment to bringing joy to every part of our country has remained unchanged. Last year’s event challenged us to continue with our mission even though the situation we were going through. However, together we grew stronger and reinvented ourselves, resulting in one of the most successful years.
Chahuares – Echarati
Now in 2021, Papanoel Trekero doesn’t stop, and in its 12th year, we’re taking Santa to Chahuares – Echarati in La Conveción!
Chahuares is a small town in Echarati district, La Convención. This area is part of the higher-altitude Amazon basin at the foot of the Andes. Because of its conditions, it’s one of the places where some of the best Peruvian coffee is produced.
The Project
With a continued commitment to developing better opportunities for kids and youth, this year, along with Pachamama Raymi and ProRural, we’ll support the construction of 2 tree nurseries in 2 rural schools that offer integral education to kids and youth. Those schools (Escuelas de Alternancia) intend to provide a dynamic learning environment, encourage self-discovery, innovation, and respect, and promote local development. Since one of the principal economic activities in the area is agriculture, this is also an important part of youth formation.
The construction of 2 tree nurseries will reforest 30 hectares of forest (300 000 trees). Apart from helping in soil remediation, this project will be part of the farming education of the students and provide them long-term economic benefits through forest management. It will lead to better life quality and opportunities for youth, kids, and their families.
