New Terminal of Jorge Chávez International Airport

Departures gate — Level 3

The new terminal at Jorge Chávez International Airport began its soft-opening phase on May 15, 2025, with full operations set to launch on June 1. From that date, all flights and airport services will transition to this brand-new facility, officially replacing the current terminal. Designed to double the airport’s capacity, from 15 to 30 million passengers annually, the new terminal combines cutting-edge technology with modern, sustainable infrastructure to improve both efficiency and the overall travel experience.

After visiting the new terminal ourselves, we’ve gathered everything you need to know to navigate your next trip to Lima with ease.

Access Roads and Transportation

Access to the new airport is exclusively via Av. Morales Duárez. Although roads have recently been renovated by the Ministry of Transport, there are ongoing concerns about potential traffic congestion due to high vehicle flow in the area.

Currently, entry and exit are via two temporary Bailey bridges. A permanent bridge is planned to connect Costa Verde with Av. Santa Rosa and then directly to the new airport. This is expected to be completed by 2026.

Additionally, a public bus service called Aerodirecto operates 24/7 with 5 strategically located stops across Lima, running every 15 minutes. Fares range between 2 and 5 soles depending on the stop.

There is a designated parking area for app-based taxis (Cabify, Uber), as well as a zone for official taxis (Taxi Green, Taxi 365, Taxi Directo) and VIP taxis (CMV Remisse).

Passengers arriving on international flights and connecting to domestic ones must:

  1. Collect luggage

  2. Go through immigration and customs

  3. Proceed to the check-in area

  4. Re-check their luggage for the domestic flight

Recommended minimum connection time: 3 hours, due to new procedures and potential delays, especially during the initial operational phase.

VIP Services: Servicio Protocolar

Included services:

  • Private parking (Sierra 1)

  • Passenger reception and accompaniment through the entire process (check-in, immigration, fast track, luggage handling, internal transport, private lounge access)

Fast Track vs. Servicio Protocolar: What’s the Difference?

As part of the services available at Jorge Chávez’s new terminal, travelers will have access to both Fast Track and Servicio Protocolar starting July 1st. These two options are designed to enhance your airport experience, but the key difference lies in the VIP Lounge, which is exclusively available for Servicio Protocolar users, not Fast Track.

When do we recommend including Servicio Protocolar?

We recommend booking Servicio Protocolar for departures, as it offers access to a private VIP lounge where passengers can relax before their flight. The service includes personalized assistance from Lima Airport Partners (LAP) staff throughout the check-in and security process. It’s a great option for travelers seeking comfort, convenience, and a bit of extra attention on their journey out of Peru.

For arrivals, we suggest opting for the Fast Track service instead. While both services include dedicated LAP staff to assist you, Fast Track is designed to help you exit the airport more efficiently. One of its key benefits is exclusive vehicle access to the first lane, a restricted access lane located closest to the arrivals gate. This allows for a faster pick-up and smoother departure from the terminal. Note that this service does not include lounge access.

Please keep in mind that at this time, there is no dedicated immigration lane or special agreement with Peruvian immigration authorities for either service. All travelers, regardless of the service booked, must go through the standard immigration process along with other passengers. We’ll continue to monitor any changes and share updates as they become available.
