Celebrating 16 Years of Spreading Christmas Joy: Papanoel Trekero 2025
Since 2009, Papanoel Trekero has been one of Peruvian Soul’s most meaningful initiatives, born from our desire to share genuine moments of connection and solidarity with the communities we visit. Every December, this project takes us off the beaten path to bring Christmas joy to children in remote Andean areas, and in 2025, that journey led us to the inspiring community of Vicos, in the Cordillera Blanca.
Our Destination: Vicos, Ancash
Located at the foothills of Huascarán, Peru’s highest mountain, Vicos is a traditional Quechua-speaking community known for its strong ancestral traditions, communal work, and deep connection to the land. Surrounded by snowcapped peaks and dramatic mountain landscapes, Vicos welcomed us with open arms and reminded us once again why Papanoel Trekero exists: to celebrate childhood, community, and unity.
A Journey Made Possible by Solidarity
Our journey began very early on Saturday, December 13th, when our team departed Lima by road towards Ancash. The road trip was safe, fast, and comfortable thanks to the incredible support of Land Rover Peru, who generously lent us Defender and Discovery SUVs to transport volunteers and the materials needed for the event. These vehicles carried not just gifts and supplies, but also the excitement and anticipation of what was to come.
We arrived in Ancash that same afternoon, and after a short rest, the real work began. That night, our team packed school kits, wrapped over 200 gifts, and prepared everything needed for the traditional chocolatada. It was a long but joyful evening, filled with teamwork, laughter, and the shared purpose that defines Papanoel Trekero.
The Big Day: December 14th in Vicos
Early on Sunday, December 14th, we set off toward Vicos carrying gifts, school supplies, decorations, and all the materials for the celebration. The event took place on a local soccer field, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain range and snowcapped peaks. The weather was perfect, and the setting could not have been more special.
As we decorated and organized the space, children slowly began to arrive, curious and excited. Before the official start, they were already playing and laughing with our volunteers, setting the tone for an unforgettable day. Soon, the celebration was in full swing: we played games, painted together, sang, danced, and shared panetón and hot chocolate while eagerly waiting for Santa “Papanoel” to arrive.
When Santa finally appeared, the joy was contagious. Each child received a toy and a school kit, and smiles filled the field. It was a moment that reminded us why every hour of planning and every kilometer traveled is worth it.
By the afternoon, tired but deeply happy, we returned to our hotel to rest, grateful for another successful edition of Papanoel Trekero and for everyone who made it possible.
A Collective Effort That Made an Impact
Thanks to the generosity of our community and partners, we were able to raise a total of USD 20,990, allowing us to deliver a meaningful and joyful Christmas celebration to the children of Vicos.
This project would not be possible without the incredible support of our partners and friends. Our heartfelt thanks go to Lima Mentor, Piuray Outdoor Center, Inca Rail, and Amaru Tours for contributing the amazing raffle prizes that helped us raise funds. A very special thank you to Land Rover Peru for their essential logistical support, and to Big Five, whose generous donation helped us reach, and surpass, this year’s fundraising goal.
Thank You for Being Part of Papanoel Trekero
Papanoel Trekero is not just an event; it is a shared effort driven by people who believe in giving back and creating meaningful connections. To everyone who donated, supported, shared, or joined us in spirit: thank you. Together, we brought Christmas magic to 200 kids of Vicos and created memories that will last far beyond the holiday season.
We can’t wait to see where Papanoel Trekero takes us next.
